Derek Mok, MD, MS.c.

Dr. Mok completed his masters degree and his General Surgery Residency at the University of Alberta, while working in the Rayat Lab. Since 2011, he has been a practicing General Surgeon in Grande Prairie. Dr. Mok is also the Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of General Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, where he teaches general surgery and family practice residents on their rural surgery rotations

Dr. Eric Tredget was the first graduate student who worked with Dr. Rayat. After obtaining his masters degree with Dr. Rayat, he pursued medicine and trained in Sydney, Australia. Currently, he is a family physician in Edmonton, Alberta, working at the MacEwan University Health Centre. Additionally, Dr. Tredget operates a low-risk obstetrical clinic and helps to deliver babies!

Yilong worked in the Rayat Lab from November 2018- May 2019 as a short-term exchange student. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student working in the Department of Horticulture at Zhejiang University, in Hangzhou, China. Yilong will graduate December of 2020!

Dr. Mihalicz worked in the Rayat Lab from 2009-2011, completing her MS.c. as part of the Clinical Investigator Program during her General Surgery Residency. Dr. Mihalicz graduated from General Surgery residency in 2014, and went on to do a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Calgary until 2016. In 2017, Dr. Mihalicz started her position as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, operating as a Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

From 2011 to 2016, Dr. Li received his M.D./Ph.D. education in Zhejiang University, School of Medicine, and undertook half year scholar training in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton. Dr. Li is currently a fellow working in the Department of Surgery at Zhejiang University. Dr. Li’s research focuses on malignant tumors of the digestive system and diabetes mellitus, specialized in the investigation of metastatic mechanisms of gastric cancer, as well as treatment of diabetes mellitus using extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells.

Dr. Huang worked in the Rayat Laboratory from Jan 2015 and Aug 2019. Dr. Rayat's professionalism and consideration had a great and everlasting imprint on Dr. Huang's Ph.D. journey. After graduation, Dr. Huang applied for a residency program in General Surgery. Now, he is in his second year of residency training in General Surgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College.
